School Meals

Our school meals provider is TAYLOR SHAW.

Families can make meal choices well in advance and can discuss food allergies and intolerances with trained and professional staff. Payments are collected by the company via debit/credit card through the ParentPay site, https://www.parentpay.com or by using a pay-point code, issued by school office staff.

To ensure school meals are safe for pupils with allergies and food intolerances, it is important that our lunch provider is fully aware of the details. Evidence of all food allergies and intolerances must be provided before pupils have a Taylor Shaw school lunch. The following form must be completed in these circumstances:

Free School Meals

Did you know…just registering your child for Free School Meals means that the school is given extra money which will benefit your child’s education?

Please register now to make sure we don’t miss out!

The government is allocating money to schools to help children from lower income families achieve their potential and make the best possible progress. This funding is called ‘ Pupil Premium’

For every child registered, Flanderwell Primary receives an amount of money which could further enrich a child’s education and provide more resources or individualised support, especially matched to their needs.

If your child is registered for Free School Meals, you could get help with paying for school visits, music tuition and admission to some before and after-school clubs. School will provide a set amount per child per year, for the purchase of uniform or class visits. Please speak with our office staff for further information. 

How does it work?
  1. First, check if you qualify – it is not just if you are unemployed, so please do look at the list below for other eligibility criteria.
  2. Registering is really quick and easy – if you think you qualify, go onto the RMBC website (  and search ‘free school meals’. Applications can be completed online or forms can be downloaded from the website. Alternatively, you can collect an application form from the school office.
  3. If you want your child to have a free, healthy meal at lunchtime that’s great – they will get the free meal (a substantial saving throughout the year) and the school gets funding too.
  4. If you don’t wish your child to have the school meals, they can continue with packed lunches as normal – as long as you qualify and are registered the school receives the funding.
    No-one will know you are registered and it will not affect any other benefits you may already receive.

 

You can register your child for Free School Meals if you receive any of these benefits.
  • Universal Credit (provided you have an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400, as assessed by earnings from up to three of your most recent assessment periods)
  • Income Support
  • Income based Jobseekers Allowance
  • Income related Employment Support Allowance
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit as long as you have a yearly household income of less than £16,190 (as assessed by HM Revenue and Customs) and do not get Working Tax Credit
  • Working Tax Credit run- on (paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit)

 

In addition, the following pupils will be protected against losing their free school meals as follows;

  • From 1 April 2018, all existing free school meals claimants will continue to receive free school meals whilst Universal Credit is rolled out. This will apply even if their earnings rise above the new threshold during that time
  • In addition, any child gaining eligibility for free school meals after 1 April 2018 will be protected against losing free school meals during the Universal Credit rollout period
  • Once Universal Credit is fully rolled out, any existing claimants that no longer meet the eligibility criteria at that point (because they are earning above the threshold or are no longer in receipt of Universal Credit) will continue to receive free school meals until the end of their current phase of education (i.e. primary or secondary)

 

Infant Free School Meals

If your child attends a state funded infant school and is in Key Stage 1 (reception, year 1 or year 2), they are entitled to ‘universal infant free school meals’ regardless of your income. Please contact your child’s school to tell them you would like to have ‘universal infant free school meals’.

 

Parents of Infants Who Receive the Above Qualifying Benefits

You can apply for free school meals if you think you might be entitled, because your school gets up to £1,320 additional funding (Pupil Premium) to support your child’s education and can help to buy new equipment and resources. This money is only paid if you apply for free school meals and are confirmed to be entitled.

If your claim is successful, the school will be notified that your child can have free school meals.
