As ever, we expect our pupils to read a minimum of 3 times per week at home and record them in their diaries. However, if your child reads less than the expected, they will be required to attend our homework club, which will be held on a Thursday break time: reading is considered to be part of your child’s weekly homework.
Homework will be sent out on a Friday and will be expected to be completed and returned by the following Wednesday. If your child struggles with their tasks, we encourage them to seek our help on either of the days before their homework is due; alternatively, please do not hesitate to contact us via a note with your child.
Along with home reads, weekly times tables assessments will take place; therefore, children are expected to practice their times tables weekly, whether that be online through Reflex Maths or TT Rockstars or even using paper and pen.
By the time children reach year 6, they are expected to be able to rapidly recall all of the times tables. Here at Flanderwell we teach them in phases (see the list below):
- By the end of Year 2, most children are expected to know the 2x, 5x and 10x tables.
- By the end of Year 3, most children are expected to know the 3x, 4x and 8x tables.
- By the end of Year 4, most children are expected to know the 6x, 7x, 9x, 11x and 12x tables.
Our weekly PE sessions will take place on a Wednesday and a Thursday. A full PE kit must be brought to school with your child and should include the following items:
- white t-shirt
- black trousers or shorts
- a jumper
- waterproof jacket
- suitable trainers
As our PE slots can either be indoor or outdoor, your child will be required to bring suitable outdoor clothing and footwear.
