Spelling zappers will be given to each child. This has six spellings for your child to learn. The words on this are individual to your child and for them to practise reading and spelling at home and in school. There will be no spelling ‘test’, but children will be given new words when they are able to spell the bookmark words in their sentence writing and we have seen them spell the word correctly five times. Each complete zapper earns Dojo points.
Below is a list of all the Year 1 common exception words. Once your child has learnt the spellings given to them previously, if you choose 10 new words from the list below for them to try at home. In Year 1 we also like the children to be able to spell the days of the week and numbers up to 20 in words.
