P.E days are Wednesdays and Fridays. Our PE topics this half term are ball skills and gymnastics. As some lessons are best taught in an outdoor space, please ensure your child has suitable footwear and warm clothes to wear in the colder months.

Homework Spellings patterns are worked on in school.  The spellings change approximately every half term. Continue to practice Year 1/2 spellings.

Times tables are worked on in school. Continue to learn your times tables at home so you can achieve bronze, silver, or even a gold ‘I know my tables’ badge! Have you met our end of Year 2 target by learning your 2x, 5x, and 10x tables yet? Remember you can also log in to Times Tables Rockstars to learn at home or in school.

Other homework is given out on Friday each week to be handed in by Wednesday the next week. Any problems with homework, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Reading Scheme: Reading Scheme books are changed once a week by Ms Rogers, once they have been read.  This will usually be on a Wednesday.

Reading diaries are also now handed in on a Wednesday. Children are awarded team points for 3 or more reads!

There are other reading books in the classroom that children can change themselves when necessary and can take home. Children are advised not to put the reading scheme books in the book area. Any problems, just ask.

Autumn 1 & 2- The Enchanted Castle

School Trip-Conisbrough Castle- Monday 24th September

Literacy:

The topic ‘The Enchanted Castle’ provides plenty of opportunities for reading and writing. We are very excited to be visiting a castle and we hope that this experience will in turn inspire amazing writing.

We began our literacy learning by writing a recount of our fantastic Summer Holidays, and we will then use the recount skills learnt to write a recount of our class trip in the form of a letter.  We will be writing both fiction and non-fictional pieces, including castle information texts, care of magical creatures instructions and descriptions.

While writing each genre we will have a specific SPaG focus throughout ensuring continuity of spelling and grammar rules. The children will also begin to follow the new Read Write Inc. spelling programme.
