We are now on the final week of the school year! For this week, I would suggest recapping any numeracy concepts learnt so far during the lockdown period and encourage your child to read, write simple sentences and spell high frequency words.
Below are all the useful websites I would suggest you could use with your child to consolidate their learning:

Twinkl is a great resource for all areas of foundation learning and curriculum. Here you will be able to access teaching ideas as well as useful free printable activities, all of which we use in class for the children and activities we send home for their home learning.

Maths resources
In maths, Foundation 2 are focusing upon reading and ordering numbers within twenty- a very useful website to go on for number activities is topmarks, https://www.topmarks.co.uk/ here you will find interactive games children can access for number ordering, adding, one more and one less, sequencing, shapes etc. (we use them in class, so children are familiar with them).
On BBC iPlayer, there is number blocks- this helps children count and add numbers together.
The maths factor has useful resources and games for children to access which match the level we teach in Foundation, following the national curriculum which is free to join https://www.themathsfactor.com/
Phonics
As well as the above, we ask you to please ensure you are asking your child to read to you, whether it be school reading books or home reading books. Make sure you are asking questions to your child about the book they have read so you can gather their understanding of the text.
Similarly, please ensure you are working with your child to recap the sounds they have on their keyrings but also the spellings they have in their zippy wallet. A sheet was also provided with high frequency words children will be expected to know and learn to help them in Year 1. These are in fact the spellings we give out when doing spellings each week with your child. We do advise you to look at one set at a time and only move onto the next set when you feel your child can say, read and write them independently. For those children who are familiar with the spellings given, try to encourage your child to write simple sentences with those words in.
If you have facebook, there is a brilliant page you could follow which is from the creator of our phonics programme Read Write Inc, called Ruth Miskin. The page is called Ruth Miskin Training. If you follow her page, she does live phonics lessons for set 1, 2 and 3 phonics. If you look at your childs keyring, you will be able to work out which set they are on.

In reading we are focusing upon sounding out and blending decodeable words with fluency, and upon practicing reading and writing our spellings.

There is also many apps on the iPad children can access: hairy letters, teach your monster to read (there is a 99p charge).
On BBC iPlayer, there is alphablocks which helps children pronounce sounds and blend cvc (consonant, vowel, consonant) words together.
If you can access youtube, there is a youtuber called Jack Hartmann, – he makes many songs and videos for phonics, numbers, shapes, and dances for exercise (tooty ta, penguin dance)- the children love these songs.
In Foundation, we want all children to succeed and be happy and safe both inside and outside of the classroom. Learning starts as soon as children walk through the doors! We open up at 8.45am and parents and carers are welcomed and encouraged to stay and take part in a short morning task, including name writing, letter formation, reading, number challenges and craft activities. Just before 9.00a.m, children are called to the carpet for the register and exciting activities begin!
Class Themes and Topics
In Foundation Stage, all learners experience a broad, balanced and varied curriculum, which is relevant to their stage of development. Thoughtfully planned, child-centred topics change from half term to half term, and are used as a vehicle to teach the whole EYFS curriculum. This year, our topics include:
Autumn 1 – Do You want to be friends? All about Ourselves, Houses and Homes, Scarecrows, Harvest and Stories with Familiar Settings.
Autumn 2 – Do Cows Drink Milk?, Autumn walks, Farms and Farm Animals, Celebrations and Festivals, Hanukkah, Christmas
Spring 1 – Will You Read Me a Story, Chinese New Year, Fairy Stories and Traditional Tales including Princess’s and Dragons!
Spring 2 – Why Do Zebras have Stripes?,Pancake day, Mr Wolf’s Pancakes, Handa’s Surprise, African Safari, Tiger who came to tea and Easter.
Summer 1 – What Can You See in the Summer? Life-cycles and Habitats, Growth, Minibeasts, Sunflowers, Jasper’s Beanstalk and the Enormous Turnip.
Summer 2 – ‘Are We Nearly There Yet? Journeys, Transport Visit to Cleethorpes, and Cleethorpes Light Railway.
