SPORTS DAY: PE days are Monday and Tuesday, but we ask children to have kit in school every day during this term, so we can have additional sessions to practise for Sports Day when possible.  Please aim to provide white t-shirt, black shorts and trainers/pumps as part of our school's Summer PE uniform.  Correct kit earns team points.

Our Topic this Half Term is…

Dead or alive?

Literacy: 'Dead or alive?' provides plenty of opportunities for reading and writing. We will be studying animal characters in stories and writing  descriptions of their appearance and behaviour.  As part of our topic we will be creating information books about animals we have encountered during our 'Animal Experience' with our visiting ranger.  We will use conjunctions and and but to compare animals' similarities and differences.

Maths: Our topic 'Dead or alive?' will include activities involving sorting and classifying animals.  We will present and interpret some of this information using pictograms and block graphs.  Other specific numeracy skills will be taught through the Abacus scheme, including place value of 2 digit numbers; adding and subtracting using money; solving missing number problems by adding and subtracting, and telling the time at o'clock, half past and quarter past.

As Scientists we will be identifying a range of mammals, reptiles, insects and fish.  We will explore some of these first-hand during our 'Animal Experience' and recognise their features. As Historians we will compare the seaside now and then.  As Geographers we will also study maps and the location of holiday destinations.  As Artists we will develop 3D skills to represent animals that we observe.  In RE we will learn some of the stories about Jesus  As Musicians we will interpret and evaluate 'The Carnival of the Animals'.  In ICT we will create comic strips by combining settings and characters.
